A new method for the dissolution of chitosan in an aqueous medium using polyoxyethylene diacid was developed. Films cast from these solutions were found to swell reversibly. The effect of polyether content and pH on the swelling behavior of the films was studied. Monolayer type devices for drug release applications were prepared using 8-hydroxy-7-iodoquinoline-5-sulfonic acid as a model drug.
