Controlled Release of FITC-BSA from Polymer Coated Gelatin MicrospheresBiomaterials Division, Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Madras-600 020, India
Biomaterials Division, Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Madras-600 020, India Gelatin microspheres containing the model protein, FITC-BSA, were prepared using the polymer dispersion technique. These microspheres were characterized for their thermal stability using differential scanning calorimetry. In order to prolong the release of the entrapped FITC-BSA, the microspheres were coated with a synthetic and biodegradable polymer, polycaprolactone. The polymer coated microspheres were characterised using infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In vitro release studies indicated that the release rate of FITC-BSA decreased with the increase in the coating concentration of the polymer.
